For work, I've always chosen a Mac, simply because Macs have been much more stable and are less likely to crash (historically for me at least). For gaming though, a PC is far better.
MAC: My impressions are that it's great for photoshop... that's it, the bang for the buck isn't there at all, we've picked up BRAND NEW pros and paid top dollar, yet (i.e.) they come with 2 gigs of ram stock... that's just shitty... not to mention that when a MAC crashes, it's down for the count man...
PC: My laptop right now is running Vista (which blows), but it's serving it's purpose, runs photoshop quite nicely and it came with 4 gigs of ram stock! and paid under half of what I would've if I went with MAC.
Linux: I LOVE this operating system, the true issue with me here is that it doesn't have a good-enough photoshop substitute... I can do everything else that I do on a daily basis with it, and it has NEVER crashed on me.

The Mac is now just one PC that can run both Windows or OSX. A very $$$$$$$ PC.
PC (Windows XP) better...
1. more games
2. more apps
3. cheaper
4. more options within apps
5. OS more customizable
Vista =
I tried mac a few times it did not feel right
I still haven't caught anything... you just have to maintain it is all

But then again... that's just me...
