Did a really fast sketch the other night and thought I would paint it up real fast. Dunno why I suddenly drew Ryu. Maybe it's because I am P U M P E D for SSFIV! Guile's my man but Ryu is such a good ol' standby,

Isn't Ryu supposed to be Japanese, so why does everyone make him look Caucasian, just dont understand that, even bloody Udon does it

I'm sure I don't have to go into an explanation about regional stylization and Japan's fascination with western culture.

It's the same reason why Aang from Avatar doesn't look overtly asian and neither do Yusaku Godai or Ranma. Not to mention the fact that Capcom has always represented him with a more anglo look. That's just how it is.

It would be awesome if you commented on the art instead of an universally understood stylistic concept.

Duuuude, apologies if I upset, your art is awesome, the colours and technique used is very cool, I love the expressions you apply to your characters even more. What you say about avatar, yusaku and ranma, is totally different to how capcome portray street fighter, you see in the mentioned anime all the characters are drawn in same big eye and similar facial look style where all the characters look same race, but in street fighter all the characters actually are drawn with different features to represent there ethnicity and can easily be recognised to their corresponding country EXCEPT Ryu. With anime like ranma and avatar they would make all characters same facial style but just change colour of skin, if that makes more sense. I just thought it very weird that's all. Chun Li looks chinese, Balrog's features look black, Dee Jay's features look jamaican, Ken/Guile look American and so forth. Apologies of any misunderstanding as it was not intended to comment on your lack of skill in art :forgiveme:

No worries.

I wouldn't say that Ryu is the only exception. I would disagree that Chun Li looks Chinese. [link]

The truth is all the characters have had small tweaks through the years. Sometimes Ryu looks more Japanese and sometimes he doesn't (he is an orphan, after all. He could be half Japanese [or 3/4 Japanese like Ken]).
