Hey gang!

Wow... it's been a prolific week, eh?

A lot of people have been positively commenting on the new techniques I've been using lately. I know sometimes a stylistic shift can be a bit jarring so thanks to everyone for coming along for the ride. I thought I would offer some insight into why to keep my "Nothing in art should be secret" mantra. I first started doing things this way for two reasons:

One was because I was dicking around one night and generated something that I thought was worth sharing (to my surprise). That pic was the Maxx [link] . That experiment lead to a solution for another problem I had been trying to solve. That problem is reason number two: Even though my fully painted style is pretty fast for a fully painted style, I have been looking for a solution to get ideas down much quicker so that I can explore more of them in a short span of time. I knew that for me that meant bringing in heavy linework and going from there (for comfort sake). I looked to artists like Bill Watterson and Doug TenNapel who developed styles that accommodated their own need for speed. I thought about why they handle their work the way they do, then, I incorporated some of what I already do (textures, effects, cel shading) and there you have it.

That's why I did a pic of EWJ! I think Doug TenNapel is one of the more special artists out there. His designs are always awesome so I wanted to pay tribute to one of my recent influences.

It's been a TON of fun to play around with and has been a great outlet on the side. So, for those of you that dig the painterly stuff: It's not going away. I have something to post on Monday to prove that. But since I am pretty jam-packed with freelance, this style is probably what will show up on DA more often for now.

This entry was a little verbose, so I apologize. I thought it might be interesting but I fear it might just be self-indulgent, hehe.

But, what am I if not self-indulgent, eh?

Thanks gang! I hope you dig!

M!
